A Hard Year
A Hard Year is a 2D plant and animal ecosystem simulation game where you have to tend to your environment and fight off threats in order for the symbiotic organisms to survive through the year. Buy traps to fight off the animals who are coming to eat your plants and insects. Keep the temperature at the perfect level for your ecosystem to thrive, and keep the Yucca populations alive.

Takeaways
A Hard Year challenged me to make a game outside of the context of a game engine. When developing this project, I used the .Net WPF framework. This allowed me to think of game systems outside the context of a game engine script, and gave me much more freedom of how I wanted to approach the functionality of the game.
The two main things I learned from this experience is that game engines abstract a lot of the development process, and how those abstractions are made/work through my own simplistic attempts.
